"dynamic imagination or stale originalism

And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure.  And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever” (2 Nephi 29.9).
Mormons, if such creatures still exist, declare,

“We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” (Ninth Article of Faith).

Revelation and godly, dynamic imagination are alive, well, and continuous. Scripture, the holiest of all writs remains forever open, and subject to new understandings and applications.

For traditional “Christians,” of course, this is anathema. Scripture is closed, not to be added unto or taken away from (See Revelation 22.18-19).

These same “Christians” often make common cause with another group of small minded “priesthood leaders:” constitutional “originalists.” For these unimaginative and uninspired priests, the constitution, a writ far less holy than scripture, is also to be held as unchangeable. No further updating or dynamic interpretation and application is allowed. It only means what it originally meant.

Such legal theories and philosophies in regard to the American constitution are as non-sensical and unimaginative as Mormons know the “Christian” theology of a closed and unchanging cannon to be. Society is in continuous need of new revelation, inspiration, and imagination, and God is always prepared to provide it.

So, why do so many Mormons side with static originalism? When did the God who “raised up” the “founding fathers” and inspired them in forming a “more perfect union,” stop revealing his will to legalists and inspiring them concerning good governance? It is as though we don’t believe our own doctrine that God still speaks to “one nation like unto another,” “the same yesterday, today, and forever” (See 2 Nephi 29.8).
For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round” (1 Nephi 10.19).
